"Great Gatsby" party a benefit for Alpha Family Center

A local party planner is throwing a Great Gatsby-themed murder mystery party to raise money for the Alpha Family Center of Lowell. The benefit will take place at Creative Party Bug, located downtown at 102 W. Main, from 5 until 7 pm on Sunday, Oct. 20.

Admission is $25 to the black tie event that will include food, a silent auction, a photo booth, art deco cookies and a fancy craft to work on and take home: a sparkling wine bottle centerpiece. There will also be a best “Roaring 20s” outfit contest, the first prize for that is $100 off a Creative Party Bug party.

“My goal is to get $5,000 for them,” said Ashley Dunn, owner of Creative Party Bug. The business just opened one month ago. “I know it's high, but that's my goal. With the money raised, they will buy supplies for families. The biggest needs are soy formula, diapers and wipes. Funding is especially important to them, because they are strictly running on donations. They don't receive any government funding or anything, and I'm happy to help. The community has been very supportive of my business opening, and I just want to give back with a fundraiser.”

“I had the awesome privilege of meeting Ashley Dunn at the Chamber breakfast that she hosted,” said Christa Wetzel, executive director of Alpha Family Center of Lowell. “I was greeted with excitement and she already had this idea of a fundraiser for the Alpha Family Center of Lowell. Ashley is a very talented and caring individual and I am excited to partake in this event and extremely excited and encouraged by her aspirations of raising $5,000 for Alpha Family Center through this event. I love the community of Lowell!”

Items up for bid in the silent auction include gift baskets and various other items.

“At the auction, I'm going to have all the items out that people can bid on so people can look at them,” Dunn said. “The highest bidder wins and all that money will go to Alpha Family Center.”

There is still time to get tickets or donate to the silent auction. For more information, contact Dunn at or 616-881-3733, or visit the Creative Party Bug page on Facebook.
