Basketball event to assist struggling family
An event called "Hoopin' for the Hollerns" will bring two communities together on Tuesday, Dec. 10 to help a family that is dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
Tim Hollern is the assistant principal at Forest Hills Eastern High School. He lives in Lowell with his wife, Alicia, and their two daughters and one son, all of whom attend Lowell Area Schools. Hollern has been fighting metastatic colon cancer for the past eight years.
On Dec. 10, the Forest Hills Eastern and Lowell boys and girls basketball teams will compete in their first games of the season. The boys team is playing at Lowell and the girls team is at Eastern. Organizers of the event are hoping to pack both gyms with people wearing "Hoopin' for the Hollerns" t-shirts.
The shirts will be available for a $15 donation prior to the event at Lowell High School. Those wearing the shirts will be admitted to the games for free.
