Fans in the Stands wins holiday lights contest
Downtown businesses are lit for the holidays thanks to the Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce's “Battle of the Businesses” holiday decorating contest on Thursday, Dec. 5. The winner turned out to be Fans in the Stands, 207 E. Main. The second place award for “honorable mention” went to the elaborate display at North Star Antiques, 211 W. Main.
“One of my dealers, Cindy Louwsma, volunteered and I let her run with it,” said North Star Antiques owner Tonia North. “The only stipulation I put on it was that I really wanted a moving train so it would have that old-fashioned Christmas look to it, like the old downtown department store windows you used to see with moving, mechanical things. That was the thought that I had, personally, and Cindy blended that with everything you see. Cindy did an outstanding job. She worked on that for two or three days at least. It was a lot of work, she spent a lot of hours. We teased her that she was the 'elf on a shelf' because she was literally working on that shelf for days. It was tricky to get the train set up because there was a lot we were trying to fit into the window, and the train took up a lot of room. A customer, Bev and Carlton Anderson, let us use the train that they normally put under their tree.”
Fans in the Stands will receive a trophy they can display year-round if they so desire.
