Red Arrow boys track finishes regular season

Lowell boys track team wrapped up their regular season last Tuesday in a dual meet against Cedar Springs and Greenville. The Arrows gathered points from all events but were challenged against the sprints and hurdles of Greenville, while the Cedar Springs distance crew neutralized Lowell’s distance ranks.

Final scores were: Cedar Springs 75, Lowell 60; Greenville 92, Lowell 45.

Lowell went into the OK White Conference meet with a fourth place regular season ranking and when the dust settled on Friday night they were in fourth place at the conference meet. The Red Arrows were able to get two members onto the all-conference team as Caleb Swart and Landon Grant made the team based on points. Lowell was able to take medals away in 13 of the 17 events, which is a great finish, considering that all but one of the medalists will be returning next year. The Arrows gained a lot of experience facing many of the senior-laden teams this season.

The number of personal records hit on Friday night took both hands to count. Some of the highlights of the evening were Keegan Cater’s 116-05 toss in the discus, making a ten-foot improvement, Landon Grant’s 5-09 high jump mark, Caleb Swart 1600m/3200 double; Josh Rau’s 110 high hurdles/300 hurdles double; the 800m where the top five were within 1 second and lastly the 1600m where all entries obtained a personal record.

Final conference meet scores were: Greenville, 168; Forest Hills Central, 85; Cedar Springs, 84.5; Northview, 79.5; Lowell, 52; Forest Hills Northern, 31 and Ottawa Hills, 26.

The MHSAA regional meet is Friday at East Lansing High School.
