Gymnastics soars past Kenowa Hills

It was a disappointing start to the gymnastics season, as the much anticipated season opener was delayed due to icy weather. The Lowell Invitational, which also serves as the team’s annual Military tribute meet would not be held, which pushed the team’s season opening event back to last Wednesday’s meet against Kenowa Hills.
Lowell’s season opening meet however, certainly was not a disappointment as LHS would coast past Kenowa Hills in a 129.925-110.375 victory.
“We knew what the outcome of the meet would be so our focus was just earning regional qualifying scores on each event," coach Michele DeHaan told us about the performance.
Leading scorers on the Red Arrows would include a 8.9 on floor by Marissa Wever, an 8.55 on beam also by Wever, an 8.8 on vault by Greta Forward and an 8.225 on bars by Aubri Lemke. Other strong scores included an 8.875 on floor by freshman Ivy McDonald, an 8.35 on beam by Katy Hock, an 8.4 on vault by Marlie Fowler and a 7.9 on bars by McDonald.
"We keep making small changes to routines trying to maximize scores before we get to Conference and Regionals later in the season,” coach DeHaan added.
While the Lowell Invitational was canceled, a smaller Military tribute will take place prior to this week’s meet at 6:30 pm Wednesday. The Lady Arrows have a busy week ahead hosting Rockford on Wednesday, heading to the Kenowa Hills Invitational on Saturday and facing Forest Hills United next Monday.
